Jim Mora Playoffs ! ? Long Version
Jim Mora's famous playoffs rant! Had to use sdp multimedia to wrench this from the incredibly clumsy, ill-designed, and -worst of all- proprietary fauxsports site. Now all can enjoy it! But seriously... Playoffs!?

Michael Jordan 1989 Playoffs: Gm 5 Vs. Cavs, "THE SHOT"

In this series deciding game, MJ attacked the basket with his usual finesse/ferocity to make sure the Bulls advanced to the next round. This is the game that features "The Shot" - the famous hanging jumper we keep seeing in all those highlights and commercials. But, people forget that that shot merely capped yet another masterful performance. MJ attacked the basket like man possessed to get his 44 points the hard way. People also forget that the Bulls lost to the Cavs in all 5 games during the regular season so they were not expected to challenge them at all. MJ's 39.8 ppg, 5.8 rebs and 8.2 asts during the series made sure that the playoffs told a different story. As usual, when it mattered most, on national TV, Game 5 in the playoffs, MJ raised his play and continued his flair for the dramatic to add to his legacy as the greatest playoff and clutch performer ever.

Michael Jordan 1993 Playoffs: Gm 4 Vs. NY Knicks, 54pts.
This was a scary performance by MJ. With an injured shooting wrist, MJ was coming off one of his worst shooting games ever in game 3 - going just 3-18 for 22 (but with a near triple double with 8 rebs and 11 asts). With the media on him, MJ produced 54pts but the scary part was how he was able to shoot 60% on call. Of course, we saw this happen over and over hundreds of times throughout his whole career but it still never ceased to amaze. This was what MJ was all about - playing in a zone. But the scary part was how he was able to turn it on at will and do it all the time. This performance was just another notch in his legendary masterpieces and it was a badly needed one as the Bulls were threatened on their march to their first 3-peat by the powerful Knicks. With the bruiser NY team winning the first two games, MJ made sure game 4 was theirs by shooting deep jumpers over Starks. Going 6-9 in treys and 18-30 overall, he had a 'quiet' 54. Of course, it's always more fun seeing the dunks and drives but on fundamentals alone, MJ was still his spectacular self and of course, his efficiency guaranteed the only thing that really mattered: victory. As usual, on national TV, when everyone was watching how he might rebound off a bad game, with a knob on his injured wrist, MJ played - just like MJ.

Magic @ Bulls, 1996 Playoffs, G1: Orlando's worst nightmare
HIGH QUALITY VERSION: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdrCJgvPvhM&fmt=18 For the Chicago Bulls, today's performance was worth the wait. Chicago spent all season looking forward to a playoff rematch against the Orlando Magic, the team that eliminated the Bulls last year in the second round. This year's ECF is Chicago's chance for revenge. And in Game 1, revenge was both sweet and spectacular. Playing a magnificent game with passion and precision, the Bulls embarrassed Orlando, 121-83, to open the four-of-seven-game series at the United Center. It was a loss that could have disastrous consequences for the Magic, because Horace Grant suffered a hyperextended left elbow in the third quarter when he collided with his teammate Shaquille O'Neal. X-rays taken of Grant's elbow were negative, but he left the arena in pain and he was listed as questionable for Tuesday night's Game 2 in Orlando. If Grant cannot play, Orlando will have even more difficulty matching up with Chicago's frontline. And even before Grant left today's game, this was a thorough beating from the start, and Orlando was on the receiving end of the spanking. The Bulls outrebounded the Magic by an incredible 62-28 margin. Chicago opened the game with such emotion, Orlando looked like a boxer who had been stunned early, and the Magic never got off the ropes. Two minutes into the game, Chicago led, 10-0, and Michael Jordan had yet to take a shot. It was only a sign of things to come. There was no need for Jordan (21 points on 9-for-17 shooting, 7 rebounds, 4 assists) to carry the offense today, because his teammates more than carried their weight. Dennis Rodman (21 rebounds) rebounded as if every missed shot was his personal property and even added a season-high 13 points. Scottie Pippen (18 points, 7-for-20 from the field, 8 rebounds, 4 assists) was more aggressive offensively than at any time during the previous series against the Knicks. And Chicago's ball movement was so crisp and purposeful, the Bulls carved through Orlando's defense like a surgeon's knife. The Bulls looked like the class of basketball today, like the team that won a record-setting 72 games during the regular season. They also looked like a team on a mission, and after this performance, one had to wonder if Orlando could stop them. Leading by 10 points at halftime, the Bulls built a 23-point lead late in the third quarter and they were never challenged thereafter. "We were pretty surprised," said Jordan, who will be named the NBA's most valuable player for the fourth time at a news conference Monday. "The game turned lopsided, which we never anticipated. We came out with a lot of intensity and a lot of emotion. It became fun." Whatever Orlando's defensive game plan was, it did not work. The Magic did not contain Pippen, or Jordan, or anyone else. Meanwhile, Chicago's defense was brilliant, holding the highest-scoring team in the playoffs in check. The Bulls' philosophy was simple. They expected Anfernee Hardaway and Shaquille O'Neal to get their points, but they were determined to contain everyone else. That is exactly what happened. Hardaway (38 points, 15-for-21 shooting) had a superb game in defeat, and O'Neal powered his way to 27 points. But for much of the game, it looked as if Orlando was playing two against five. Orlando's supporting cast abandoned its two superstars like passengers on a sinking ship. Grant was scoreless. Dennis Scott was scoreless. Nick Anderson had 2 points. The Bulls guarded O'Neal primarily one on one, with Luc Longley, Bill Wennington, John Salley and Rodman taking turns defending against Orlando's center. That allowed the rest of the Bulls to concentrate on covering Anderson, Grant and Scott on the perimeter. Ron Harper did a solid job on Scott, Jordan shut down Anderson and Grant had no room to take his reliable perimeter jumper. How will Orlando counteract this strategy? "That's something we're going to have to figure out between now and Tuesday," said Brian Hill, Orlando's coach. "I don't have the answer to that right now. We were not aggressive offensively. We were not aggressive defensively. The outcome of this series isn't going to change unless we pick up our aggressiveness." Orlando will get another chance. But this game belonged to the Bulls.

Michael Jordan 1986 Playoffs: 63pts, Gm 2 Vs. Celtics
MJ's 1st 50+pt game is this Legendary Game. It's still the playoff record and is ranked 3rd in the book "Michael Jordan's Top 50 Games". NBA Sophomore MJ was just 23 years old but he would show the world in just his 6th playoff game that there would never be another player like him again. This Celtics team was considered perhaps the greatest team ever. Having won 67 games, 40-1 at home, 31 straight at home and on a 14 win streak, MJ single-handedly almost dismantled them. After scoring 49 points in Game 1 (which I also have up on youtube), McHale said, "That will never happen again." The Celtics went back and brainstormed to stop MJ and came back to hold MJ to 63. At times, putting 4-5 bodies on Jordan, Jordan was well, still Jordan. MJ missed 64 games in the regular season with a broken foot and returned just 6 weeks earlier but in this game, the legend of Michael Jordan was born. Scoring on vicious attacks, athletic jumpers from everywhere and finesse and power moves all at once, MJ displayed an intensity to win and take the entire Boston Team all by himself. It was chilling to watch. Scaring the guts out of the Champion Celtics in their unbeatable home court, MJ played a game that still stands as the greatest post-season record of all-time with 63 points. The only quote you need to remember is Bird saying, "That was God disguised as Michael Jordan. He's the most awesome player I've ever seen...he was getting his points in the flow of the game...scary." Celtics coach KC Jones added, "I was watching and all I could see was this giant Jordan and everyone else was just in the background."

Michael Jordan 1989 Playoffs: Gm 3 Vs. Pistons, 46 pts
MJ attacked the Pistons' 'Bad Boys Jordan Rules' defense with an attacking game in Game 3. This was the most dramatic game of the series which went to 6 games with the Pistons winning and going on to become the Champs. This Pistons team, perhaps the greatest defensive team ever, was the last hump MJ had to face before becoming a champion. The game-winner in this game for MJ was one of his best.
