Light Brown Apple Moth Spray Causes Severe Red Tide Monterey Bay experienced an extreme red tide shortly after the controversial aerial spraying of Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties by the Calif Agriculture Dept to control the Light brown Apple Moth. The Marine Sanctuary was supposed to be off limits but it rained right after the aerial assault and runoff goes into the bay. And obviously two or three blocks back from the water is not sufficient air space to protect the sanctuary from planes spewing pesticide or prevent it from drifting over the water. Marine birds got sick or died "mysteriously". Many surfers in this internationally recognized surfing area got sick from surfing during the worst red tide in memory. Golden Gate Bridge March to Stop the LBAM Spray Program May 31, 2008 - Why hundreds and hundreds gathered on an cold drizzly Saturday morning. SUBJECT BACKGROUND: The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) and the USDA are very determined to aerial spray the human populations with untested biochemical pesticides in the urban areas of the Monterey Bay and San Francisco Bay regions. They allege that they are doing so to eradicate the Light Brown Apple Moth (LBAM). They have sprayed the human population in Monterey twice and the population in Santa Cruz once so far... with over 600 complaints of illnesses. Their stated plans are to aerial spray from every 30 days to every 90 days, throughout the year, for an indefinite amount of years to come. Aerial spraying is planned to start June 1, 2008 in Monterey and Santa Cruz counties and on August 1, 2008 for San Francisco Bay Area communities.
